Nationals 2001

"Believe In The Future"

Dawn of a New Age

September 11, 2001 is a day that we, unfortunately, will always remember.  It is a day that will go down in history as one of the most tragically horrific days in all of humankind.  In the wake of this disaster, it now is our duty to pay tribute to America and our thousands of brave heroes.  At the Paso Fino Grand Nationals, we did exactly that.

Reflejo El Classico is the magnificent son of Classico, grandson of Plebeyo and great grandson of Bochica.  This splendid fino stallion was bestowed the honor of presenting the American flag in the tribute to America at the 2001 Paso Fino Grand Nationals.  And what a superb job he did!

Larry Johnson, President of the Paso Fino Horse Association, in his opening comments reminded us of the greatness of the country in which we live and how vitally important it is at this point for us all to go forward.  Rick Meyer, past President of the Paso Fino Horse Association, initiated a special tribute by starting the chant "USA, USA, USA."  The crowd quickly joined, the chant growing into a crescendo of patriotism.  Then, under the steady hands of Derrick Fernandez, Reflejo El Classico so very proudly presented the American flag.

As Reflejo El Classico regally circled the arena with the American flag held high and flowing freely in the air, the crowd rose to their feet and cheered to "Born in the USA."  Reflejo El Classico then stood as still as a statue in the center of the Fino board to "The Star Spangled Banner," sung by Katie Walliser.  With stately dignity, Reflejo never moved a muscle.  Then to "God Bless America" and a thunderous ovation, Reflejo El Classico powerfully presented the American flag.  With his brio and grace the American flag was thrust higher and higher while flowing freely and proudly in the air.  There was not a dry eye.

On Thursday evening, prior to the Paso Fino Grand National Horse Auctions, the magnificent stallion, Reflejo El Classico, again nobly presented the American flag with dignity and honor.  The capacity crowd and Reflejo El Classico were motionless during the National Anthem.  Then to "God Bless America," Reflejo El Classico led our tribute to America, majestically marching the very symbol of this country's spirit and freedom around the arena, flying our flag brilliantly and beautifully.

It is only fitting and most appropriate at this moment of terrible grief that we look to the future, that we believe in the future, that we believe in life.  May God continue to bless America

Independencia is a beautifully confirmed, dappled gray mare that is full of fire and brio.  She possesses very fine natural fino gait which she performs with ease.  She is always in the ribbons.  Look for her debut in Fino mares.  Already a winner, this elegant filly is available for $80,000. Reflejo El Classico is participating in the breeding program at Buena Vista Farms.  Stud fee is $2,000 with semen available at all times.  In compliance with the President of the United States request, we are proud to offer a special stud service through June 2002.  The second mare will be covered free.

A TRUE CHAMPION
BANDOLERA
(dame of Reflejo el Classico)
By: Charles Rondeau

Reflejo el Classico - Paso Fino Champion with BandoleraBandolera, the mare that won 2001 National Produce Of Dame, won the fight of her life and it was not at Nationals. It was February 25, 2002, and it was the vets third evaluation and treatment of Bandolera in two days. She had that listless look in her eyes. Bandolera would paw and pace in her stall. We put her out and all she wanted to do was lay down. The pain must have been unbearable. She had been oiled and was on medication. Dr. Sausville made the call to the Veterinary School at the University Of Florida in Gainesville. He referred Bandolera for further evaluation ,observation and possible colic surgery

The initial evaluation at the University verified that Dr Sausville was correct and that we had to get through the night. At 3:30 AM Dr Loesch called and recommended Surgery. That’s when it became complicated, as Bandolera was pregnant and near full term. At 7:30 AM Dr. Loesch called again. It did not look good for either Bandolera or her unborn colt. The prognosis provided few options, with little hope. We decided to go for it. At 10:00 am Dr Loesch called and said it was a true miracle that Bandolera was standing in her stall. It was a 4 1/2-hour colic surgery that produced calcium stones from her colon

Bandolera was far from out of the woods and the unborn colt was suspect resulting from the prolonged anesthesia. The natural birthing process could cause a blow out of the colic surgery, and time would be on the side of the unborn colt. Two weeks had passed and Dr Loesch wanted Bandolera to foal out in a natural controlled environment. We contacted Jody Anderson at The Broodmare Resort in Ocala, Florida. Jody and Dr. Loesch made arrangements and Bandolera was transported to The Broodmare Resort where she would be under 24-hour electronic surveillance

It was early March 15th when Jody called with the good news. Bandolera had a colt and that both the colt and and Mother were doing great.

Bandolera is the dam of the celebrated stallion Reflejo El Classico and National Champion Independencia Prestante. The new colt is a full brother to Independencia.

Bandolera, 2001 National Champion Produce Of Dam, has proven that she is a champion in more ways than one.
